The garden is not just an idea — it grows through practice.
Each project is a seed, a gesture, a question. Some took root in performance, others in archives, in movement, in film. What follows are traces of this living research: cultivated, composted, and in constant transformation.

these projects were anything but banal. I loved them all.
They reflect how I think, what matters to me, and what I believe in.
Each collaboration has shaped both my artistic and academic work — and I’m deeply grateful for them.

What you’ll find here is a small selection that traces my post-disciplinary thinking involving artistic research, cultural theory, and wild gardening practice.

Time for research and writing – literary residencies in Florence, „Something Bright, Something Dark, Something Gold – The Stories of Mr G“ (spring and summer 2025)

„I’m deeply grateful to be here in Florence — to have the time, the space, the breath. To smell the city, to feel these incredible places. To be moved by the history all around me. Surrounded by ghosts, by Dante’s hell, towering palazzos and echoes of the Renaissance. So excited to be working on the second part of my trilogy: „Something Bright, Something Dark, Something Gold – The Stories of Mr G.“ May the spirits be with me…. at least for a short time… 🙂 – Marc Wagenbach“

Developing Dreams – UNDER CONSTRUCTION. Wir bauen zusammen ein Haus (We built a house together) – FIRST EDITION – PINA BAUSCH ZENTRUM -conception and direction of the Pina Bausch Centre under construction event series in September 2020

„Especially during the pandemic, it was both a challenge and a privilege to curate and lead the development of this festival. Shifting it into a digital format demanded flexibility, creativity, and a strong sense of collaboration. To imagine a house – a new Pina Bausch Centre – that embodies the spirit of Pina Bausch and her legacy. A place of dance, memory, and hope – Marc Wagenbach.“

About the project: „What are our wishes for the future Pina Bausch Centre? How can we make it into a place that is welcoming, where you can meet friends, be creative together, dream, or take a break from the pressures of everyday life? An open house for all Wuppertalers, local yet digitally connected and up-to-date – a house for the 21st century?

We cordially invite you to our digital festival under construction, which runs from 21st to 29th November 2020. Joined by international guest artists, dancers, researchers and you, the people of Wuppertal, we will explore new forms of social togetherness through online workshops, live-streamed performances, podcasts, films, discussion rounds and digital campaigns – easily accessible from your home. How do we build a house together? Dream with us.“
